Maintaining 2sp conveyor belts is among the most complicated and difficult part of manufacturing processors. Improper maintenance of conveyor belts can reduce the belts efficiency but can also seriously damage the machine as a whole.
Of course, conveyor belts work under consistently heavy conditions, and so they can degrade quickly. The surface can wear and soften, split and break, if not maintained properly.
Tip #1: Choice of Cleaner
When maintaining ceramic belt cleaners you will have several options to choose from. It is very important that you choose the right type of cleaner, depending of course on the application required for that particular cleaning. If you make the wrong choice it can result in premature wear (shorter lifespan) or insufficient cleaning efficiency (which means you may have to clean again soon). It can also degrade the working environment.
Tip #2: Choice of Wear Material
Along with the type of cleaner it is also important that you choose the appropriate wear material. This will depend on the type of material transported across the conveyor belt. Of course, advanced wear materials cost more and that is important to remember as you may not need these advanced materials in light duty applications. On the other hand, of course, cheaper wear materials may not hold up in a more heavy duty application. Thus, here are the materials available today:
Rubber: good wear resistance but its soft texture is inefficient as a belt cleaner.
Polyurethane: a good wear material, this synthetic offers longer life while still being gentle to the belt. With an aggressive blade-to-belt-cleaning angle can also be used for more efficacy without risk of higher damage.
Tungsten Carbide: Offering fair resistance you need to make sure to keep the scraper edge square against the belt to avoid greater damage. Ceramics also offer longer life but can be more brittle and are more sensitive to impact.
Tip #3: Proper Installation
Of course, the best way to ensure you get the most out of your conveyor belts is to install them properly. Incorrect installation reduces efficiency and increases wear, putting the belt at risk for premature breakage. Similarly, make sure that once the belt is installed properly, in the right place, it operates at the appropriate speed.
